Start Your Day The Right Way – With Intention
Sat ,19/09/2009Many of us use a saying that goes like this, “I (or You) must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed.”
What a bogus statement. There is no wrong side of the bed – there is a left side, a right side, a head, and a foot, but no wrong side.
Why do we use this term “wrong side” then? It’s really simple we are obviously referring to your mood so early on in the day. We automatically know that when someone says that to us they are basically saying, “Someone’s in a Bad Mood.”
Why on earth you would choose to be in a bad mood? Now, don’t tell me it’s not a choice and then litter me with excuses of why a bad mood is justifiable – you won’t win.
I’m a firm believer that every seemingly negative experience has a positive to it and by focusing on “the dirt and ruble” AKA the negative – you chose not to focus on the “gold nugget” AKA the positive.
So whose fault is that?
Alright, so you might be asking yourself, “How then can I start the day in a good mood?”
Here are a few tips:
1. Don’t go to bed with unresolved issues they’ll carry over to the morning
2. Use the Power of Intention to Create an Outlook for the day – reuse this if you must throughout the day to re-center
Okay, so you are now saying that first task is way too difficult right? STOP making excuses – NOTHING is difficult unless you allow it to be. So, not going to bed with unresolved issues is really simple to handle – here is how.
First, if it is due to an argument with a spouse, friend, or relative – settle that conflict then. You don’t want to go to sleep with a bad conscience so make amends before you go to bed. Here are a few options to try…
- “Look I know you are angry and upset with me, but that is not my intention and frankly we cannot see the situation clearly if we are looking from that perspective. I understand and appreciate ….”
- “I hate it when we argue it does nothing productive for us. I hear that you are saying … am I correct or have I misunderstood something? Wow, it was not my intention to ….”
- “I know you did the dishes last and I appreciate that. Look, why don’t we do them together. In fact, why don’t we try and prepare dinner together and follow up by doing the dishes that way we freed up time that we can use to spend together. How does that sound?”
I think you basically get the gist of what I’m saying here.
Don’t you think by starting off that way you will be able to successfully turn around the situation? The problem with an argument is both parties want to be right and are often blinded by their quest. The real purpose to a disagreement is to see how you handle both sides of the situation. Are you going to come from a place of love or fear? Is it really that important to be right? Can you both not be right?
When you are arguing with somewhat was is important to you besides being right?
- A Desire to be heard?
- To be Acknowledged?
- To be Understood?
- To be appreciated?
- To be validated?
Perhaps, it’s one of those if not all of them. So why not use them; “I hear”, “I acknowledge that you feel”, “I understand”, “I appreciate …”, “I never thought of it that way…”
When we validate someone we are validating how they feel, their opinions, thoughts, point of view, etc. At this juncture you will most likely notice that something was misinterpreted or misunderstood. Now, you clarify, “That was not my intention…”
There is that word again – INTENTION.
So, let’s have a few examples to set the intention of the day;
- “I am a Divine Spiritual Being fully enamored with the tools, knowledge, and know how to handle any situation that comes my way. I will see this situation as a glorious experience that will enable me to come from a place of love and find the almighty nugget of gold.”
- “I am a Spiritual Being who has called forth every experience that comes to me today. I am glorified in knowing that I have the CHOICE to handle even the “darkest” of moments in a positive way by lighting my torch of Divineness . I will illuminate the darkness to see the marvels it will reveal.”
- “I am a Divine Spiritual Being and there isn’t one single obstacle that I cannot overcome. I’ll see hope instead of despair, flowers instead of garbage, success instead of failure, and so on. I am not separate from the Divine Source – I am a extension of it. Therefore, I am ready for all things.
I could probably write a book of those, but I hope you get the idea.
So without further adieu, set YOUR intention for this beautiful Saturday!
